top ranking medical university in the world
Becoming a doctor is a dream for many ambitious students in the United Kingdom but it is quite tough for school leavers to get a place at medical schools. Currently there are over 30 recognized medical schools in the UK; most of them offer courses that last between five to six years.

According to the recently published Times Good University Guide, the Top 10 medical schools in the UK are (in order of ranking): Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, University College London, Newcastle, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol and Nottingham. Seven performance indicators are used in the ranking including research scores, entry standards, national student survey and graduate prospects.

Here we look at some of the top ranking medical schools:

1.
Cambridge
Over the years Cambridge remains as one of the top two universities in the UK (In some rankings Oxford beat Cambridge to the top spot). With world class teaching and research facilities, Cambridge is providing the most competitive medical programs through the School of Clinical Medicine. The school comprises more than 600 research staffs that are actively involved in a number of research areas such as the cancer research, infection and immunity, women's health and others. The standard entry requirement at the medical school is an AAA grade at A Level.

2.
Oxford
Oxford is the oldest university in the UK with 900 years of history. Oxford Medical School offers two courses (a six-year course and a four-year course) with both leading to the award of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (BM, BCh). The four-year course is for graduates in appropriate science subjects.

3.
 Imperial
Imperial College London is the closest rival to Oxbridge. The Imperial College School of Medicine (ICSM) offers both a six-year Medicine course and a four-year graduate entry course. ICSM is also highly ranked in the international league tables. It is ranked as the fourth best medical schools in the world by THES - QS World University Rankings.
