Procrastination's Grip

Today's topic is one that I briefly mentioned in a previous post (Time Management).  The focus of this post will be:  Procrastination.....(DUN DUN DUNNN!)

Okay the reason I wanted to give this topic its own post is because procrastination can ruin everything. Time management is definitely involved here, but I feel that there's a deeper root to procrastination.  Many of us do not realize the consequences procrastination has on our daily lives.

I'll give you a simple example.  A presentation is due on Thursday and it is Monday.  You know that your topic is "The History of Peanut butter" so you think, "ehh peanut butter, should be easy"  Of course you leave it for last minute, (Wednesday night) and make a real bad presentation. I'm talking so bad that George Washington Carver would turn in his grave over fifty times!

Despite your horrible presentation grade, you just dropped a whole grade point because the presentation was worth 50 percent of your final grade!

YOU SEE WHAT HAPPENS?!
NOW YOU WONT GRADUATE COLLEGE,
YOU WONT GO TO GRAD SCHOOL,
AND YOU MIGHT BE WORKING AT A FARMERS MARKET SELLING PEANUT BUTTER FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!

HAHA okay okay, that might be a drastic turn of events but you guys get the point!

So just keep in mind that despite how hard procrastination is to over come, it can be tamed!

Enjoy this funny video I found online about procrastination.
Stay tuned for the next post and the next installment of "The Roommate Experience"

I'LL BE BACK! (Arnold's voice)

Benefits Of Getting High School Diploma Online

Despite the fact that high school may appear to be nothing to adults, a school diploma makes a vast difference to your income and moreover the stability of your job in the long run. Those interested can seek admission and enroll in an officially recognized online school such as the James Madison High School and the Penn Foster High School, to name a few.

In a competitive world, it is very important to have a good educational background, which is the main reason why earning a school diploma is becoming all the more essential. Earning a school diploma online is a sure shot ticket to success. As a matter of fact, there was a survey conducted a few years back in 2002 by the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), where they uncovered that the average school graduate was able to earn approximately $717 on a monthly basis over the average person who had not finished high school!

A high school diploma is worth a lot these days, as many organizations prefer people with a school diploma at least. There was another survey, which was conducted in the year 2004 by the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), where the result of the survey showed that it was more possible for 70 percent of school graduates to land themselves a job whenever required as compared to those who did not have a diploma.

Another survey conducted came up with the result that the workers on a full-time basis who earned a school diploma or GED were 37.5 percent less liable to be jobless as compared to workers with less education. The salary statistics happened to be even more striking as workers who had obtained a school diploma or GED received an average of $554 per week, in contrast to the $396 per week that the less qualified earned.

A High School Diploma in opposition to the GED

The GED examination is structured consisting of five divisions namely mathematics, writing skills, understanding literature, social studies and science. Even if you do finish off a GED program it would not be able to offer you a school diploma, however a large amount of hiring executives consider a GED holder to be just as good as a graduate from high school. On the other hand, you would come across some colleges that might consider the GED to be lower as compared to a school diploma. This is generally the case if they need specific courses of study that the GED does not offer.

The high school diploma offers you greater choices, particularly if you are taking into account additional schooling. Employers generally consider a school diploma or GED as evidence of a person's capability. Over and above the requirements of literature, math and science, a diploma is evidence that you are capable and have realized the importance of an education.

College of Home Science and Industry

The College of Home Science and Industry has its humble beginnings as a Department of Home Economics in 1954, a year after Congress passed Republic Act No. 1174 converting the then Central Luzon Agricultural College School to Cental Luzon Agricultural College. By virtue of resolution 405 that was approved by the Board of Trustees on January 18, 1955, a four year course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Home Economics was offered.

The BSHE curriculum was revised and approved on April 26, 1979 with major options in Home Economics and Extension Education, Food Processing and Bachelor of Science in Garment Technology. These revisions were implemented during the first semester, school year 1979-1980.

Board resolution No. 1868, s. 1979 renamed the College of Home Economics to College of Home Science and Industry, with the aim of making the name more relevant with the philosophy and goals of the University and to the goals and objectives of the College.

In cognizance of the demands of scientific and technological changes and the countryҀs need for more effective manpower resources, courses in Food Technology and Textile and Garment Technology were instituted. These courses effected the present departments are: the Department of Food Science and Technology, the Department of Textile and Garment Technology and the Department of Home Economics Education and Extension, each offering a degree program.

Aside from the degree program offered by the Department of Home Economics Education and Extension, it also runs a kindergarten in the campus, primarily catering to children of faculty and staff. Its operation started in 1982.

In response to the nationҀs and the universityҀs thrust toward agro-industrial development as well as to Executive Orders and Letter of Instructions some revisions in the curricular programs were undertaken which included inception of certain courses for institutionalization.

College of Veterinary Science and Medicine

The determination of Dr. Amado C. Campos, then President of the Central Luzon State University to have a unique veterinary curricular program commissioned Dr. Teodulo M. Topacio, Jr. to create such a program. Hence the first Ladderized Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Curricular Program was conceptualized and created. Thru this program CLSUҀs DVM program has become a model and has been replicated in many Veterinary Colleges.

The College of Veterinary Science and Medicine of Central Luzon State University was established through the Republic Act no. 4067 enacted to law by Congress in 1964 and which was effected through a Board of Regents Resolution no. 17-78 s. 1978. As a guide in its quest for service and excellence, a vision and mission have been formulated. Its vision is to become a model veterinary institution in Asia dedicated to country-side development and its mission is to provide excellent veterinary education that will produce graduates equipped with technical, entrepreneurial, managerial and leadership skills necessary for optimum animal production in the countryside.

Being a top notched veterinary institution we have to strive more in putting into realization this quest we have to embrace the four-fold function as espouse by the University and where CVSM have made the following progress;

For instruction, CVSM put up various innovative teaching strategies. The college was the first in the entire University in putting up its electronic library and audio-visual section. We have also put up the first fully functional lecture rooms equipped with modern teaching facilities. We have put up two unique curricular programs not found in any other veterinary institution in the country and these are the Ladderized Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Curricular Program and the Master of Veterinary Studies.

For research, CVSM is a participant in the international sponsored research project on endoparasites control on small ruminants. The college is also at the forefront in ethno-veterinary research and epidemiological studies. Various collaborative researches has also been undertaken with the Philippine Carabao Center, Bureau of Animal Industry and Veterinary Companies.

For Extension, CVSM has adopted 4 barangays and provided them with livelihood projects thru its cattle dispersal project which is now on its 12th year. Vaccination campaign against rabies an FMD have undertaken in cooperation with various municipalities from within and outside Nueva Ecjia.

For production, CVSM believes in the development of the entrepreneurial talent of its students, hence various income generating projects has been put up which augments the funding source of the college.

The faculty members are highly qualified with majority having post-graduate degree in their field of specialization. There is a low faculty-student ratio and small classes providing a better interaction between students and faculty. The graduates of our program have become successful in various fields of veterinary medical specialties both here and abroad. Many have become Provincial and City Veterinarians as well as Veterinarian in various government agencies. It is also interesting to note that many companies prefer CLSU graduates over all other. This only shows the high quality education the College is providing. The result of the Government Veterinary Licensure Examination is another testimony of the excellence in its program.

It is also hope that as the years goes by the College will play a lead role in providing quality Veterinarians that will lead the country thru providing food security, safeguard of public health and economic development.

College of Education

Since 1950, the College of Education has been unfailingly fulfilling its function of training future teachers and technicians highly qualified to mold the Filipino mind.

The College of Education initially started with two four-year courses: Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education (BSAEd) and Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Extension Education (BSAExEd). In 1983, it opened two new four-year courses, Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) and Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) in answer to the demands for more teachers in the elementary and secondary levels.

In School year 1996-1997, the College of Education was selected as Center of Development of Teacher Education (COD) in Region III. In SY 1999-2000, the College as a COD offered a double degree program, AB/BSEd, known as the CITE program. It is a 4-year and 2-summer program course. It carries at least 51 units in the major courses.

On October 14, 1997, the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities (AACCUP), Inc. awarded level I (Candidate Status); on January 16, 1999, Level II (Accredited Status) and on January 16, 2002, Level II (Reaccredited Status) to the Teacher Education Program of the Central Luzon State University.

College of Fisheries

The College of Fisheries (CF) is located in the northeastern portion of the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in Munoz, Nueva Ecija. The college is about 1.5 km away from the main campus and 150 km north of Manila. The college was established in 1976 to fill the need for trained human resources vital to the development of the countryҀs inland fisheries sector. It offered a work-oriented curriculum leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Inland Fisheries which was considered the only one of its kind in the country then.
The College constitutes one of two fisheries units in the University, the other being the Freshwater Aquaculture Center(FAC). Working hand in hand, these two units implement the universityҀs programs and activities in fisheries and aquaculture such as instruction, research training, extension and production. At present, the two units are sharing technical staff and facilities. The faculty devote their time to academic duties in the College and the Department of Aquaculture, Institute of Graduate Studies and research at the Center.

With about three decades of existence, the College was able to set two unprecedented records in the history of CLSU for being the first college to have two Ten Outstanding Young Man (TOYM) awardees as faculty members and the first college to produce the first Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University. In 2006, it ranked number one among the topnotchers in the Fisheries Technologist Board exam in the country.

The College is one of the top performing Fisheries institutions in the country based from the performance of its graduates in the Fisheries Technologist Board Exam administered by the Professional Regulation Commission f the Philippines.
In June 1987, the college offered a new curriculum, the Bachelor of Science in Fisheries with major field in inland fisheries and minor field in marine fisheries. The college is the only one in Central Luzon (Region III) that offers a BS Fisheries curriculum. On May 19, 2006, a revised BSF curriculum was approved under BOR Resolution 29-2006. The revised BSF curriculum addresses the minimum standards and requirements set by the CHED-Technical Panel in Agricultural Education in Fisheries (TPAE) [CMO 43, S., 2006], the areas of concern of Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Fisheries Technologist Board Examination, and most importantly the needs of the fisheries and aquaculture industry in the country.
The college is in partnership with the Freshwater Aquaculture Center (FAC). Working hand in hand, these two units implement the universityҀs programs and activities in fisheries and aquaculture instruction, research, extension and production. The synergy of CF and FAC has primarily contributed to the catapult of tilapia industry in the country. In addition, CF-FAC linkage aims to contribute significantly to livelihood enhancement and attainment of improved production and management of the countryҀs inland fisheries resources. The CF-FAC conducts basic and applied research, both on-station and on-farm leading to scientific breakthroughs and generation of scientific data and information which are geared towards the development of technologies appropriate for increasing fish production, employment generation and livelihood enhancement. The scope of researches includes fish genetics and biodiversity, fish molecular markers such as microsatellite DNA, otolith microchemistry, culture systems, fish nutrition and feed development, fish immunology and health, water quality and ecosystem management, and socio-economics. Recently, research proposals on fisheries biotechnology such as molecular marker particularly single nucleotide polymorphism in tilapia and Pacific white shrimp, IGF-I as parameter for growth in tilapia, and serotyping of tilapia bacterial pathogens for vaccine development have been approved by the DOST. The newly established Biotechnology and Molecular Biology Laboratory of CF-FAC is equipped to carry out researches on molecular disciplines.
In 2001, the college was recognized as Center of Excellence in Fisheries by the Commission on Higher Education. This recognition is attributed to the sterling performance of the college as one of the top two fisheries institutions in the country. In fact, due to research works of CF-FAC on sustainable aquaculture program CLSU has been awarded as the Best Higher Education Institution in the country in 2008 by CHED.

College of Engineering

College of Engineering
The College of Engineering (CEn) started as a department, the Department of Agricultural Engineering offering a secondary Farm Mechanics Course in the then Central Luzon Agricultural School (CLAS).

In June 1955, five years after the school was elevated into the Central Luzon Agricultural College (CLAC), the Department was expanded to include the offering of a 4-year curriculum in Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering (BSAEn). Later in 1959, this curricular program was revised into a 5-year BSAEn program.

When CLAC was converted into what is now the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) through R.A 6067 of 1964, the Department of Agricultural Engineering became the College of Engineering.

Over the long years, the CEn has carved a name for itself. Its graduates have excelled in board examinations for engineering and have occupied key management positions on which they have earned national and international recognition for their outstanding works. All these have contributed to the high reputation of the college.

Another MOOC

Sometime in the last two weeks, a friend pointed out the Stanford MOOC called Designing a New Learning Environment and thought I might like it.  I signed up and got the introductory letter today.  In addition to the usual lectures and discussions students will "ultimately design and pitch a new learning environment as your final team project. Examples include learning management systems that do more or are better than existing tools, mobile learning models or e learning pedagogies, a technology that supports learning and assessment, new school system models, or a blended learning program."

This seems like it's more in line with my idea for Edstartup 101, so I may decrease my involvement in that MOOC so that I can devote more time to the Stanford one.    Just realizing that is possible is informative to me of the MOOC phenomenon in general.  I would never consider dropping one class for another if I had paid for it.   Free, open classes are kind of like an all you can eat buffet-- take what you want and leave the rest.  It also has some interesting ramifications for the teacher-- how do you make it worthwhile to people to stay- or do you even care?

High School Diploma Online

Technology is changing every aspect of the world and that includes education too. It is now possible for you to get your high school diploma online. If the idea of going to school, or going back to school after a long time, seems intimidating to you, then getting an online high school diploma could be the solution to all your woes. The main reason adults choose this method of getting a diploma online over actually going to school is that they can do this while continuing with their work and careers.

It is very essential that you get your high school diploma, as this could be important and beneficial for your career and further education. A school diploma is your ticket to a good college entry, and in turn, getting a good job.

According to the census, school graduates earn $5,000 more per year than those without a high school diploma. An increased number of teenagers are opting for getting an online diploma for a variety of reasons. Either because their health does not allow them to attend regular class, or they want to pursue careers in acting or music without stopping studying, or because they just want to get away from peer pressure.

Choosing between Private or Public High School
Even with distance learning or getting a diploma online, you have a choice between public and private schools. Private schools are not dependent on government regulation for their functioning. They function independently and have their own regulations, teaching methods and systems. The tuition fee is higher as you will be paying for all the costs, including the hardware and software. Care must be taken with regards to the accreditation of these private schools that offer online diplomas.

Online public schools are of two types: Public charter school and regular public school. Public charter schools are funded by the public and allow free enrollment and have more freedom than regular public schools. If you have the facility of public charter schools in your state, opt for these. Some of these public charter schools even provide online students the computer equipment and study material for free.

Before choosing any kind of high school to get an online diploma, it is advisable that you do all your research and investigation so as to get the best possible education that you can.

Pros and Cons of Online High School Diplomas
The benefits of getting an school diploma online are plenty. You can work at your own pace and at your own time. There are fewer distractions while studying from home, and no peer pressure and bullies. It is even possible to finish your school early and get your diploma earlier. Some even finish their school twice as fast as regular students do.

There are some downsides of getting an online diploma. The lack of having a teacher to guide and motivate is difficult for some to handle. Some students tend to become antisocial and reclusive. You have to be extra careful where the accreditation is concerned, as some colleges may not accept transcripts from un- accredited online high schools. It can be a very expensive process, often costing thousands of dollars.

The choice and future is yours; choose wisely!

Home Schooling - The Best Choice!

You Control the Environment

The major advantage to home schooling is that you control the environment. You choose the curriculum, you choose the pace. If your child is slow to understanding a concept, you have the freedom to allow the extra time your child needs to completely understand the topic. There just isn't this level of individualism in public school. Public school is equally hard on the under achiever who feels lost when the rest of the class moves on and for the over achiever who is bored because they grasped the concept long before the rest of the class. At home you can vary the pace to give both types of students the freedom they need to succeed.

Most public schools are overcrowded with 30 or more students in a classroom. The shear level of noise and commotion with this many students in one room makes learning difficult. With home schooling, you control the noise level and can limit the number of interruptions in your child's day.

Many parents are opting for a Christian home schooling curriculum to reinforce their values and morals. Public schools cannot teach religion and may not teach the moral values that are important to you. At home, you get to decide when to discuss sex education with your child in a private setting. In public school, sex ed is often taught in phy-ed or health class in a large group setting with lots of snickering and embarrassing comments. 'One size fits all' sex ed. Are your values being taught? Probably not.

Home schooling is a great answer for parents who want a stronger math or science background for their child. Whatever it is you want your child to learn, there is curriculum available that the home school experience can provide. Many students learn best with tactile, hands on learning. Most public schools do not have the funds to provide hands on learning to children. Through home schooling programs, you can tailor your program to fit your child's style of learning.

These are just the beginning of the benefits that a home schooling program can offer your child!

What To Major In

I am sure that many of you went through that phase where you questioned if the college you were choosing was the right one.  There are many factors that influence your choice in whether or not you want to continue your education. I know that there are some concerns when choosing a new school and a question that we all ask ourselves is "What do I want to Study?"

I found an article on NBCNEWS.com titled "College freshmen face major dilemma." The article was about college students and their decision about changing majors.

Here's an interesting piece of the article.

With the percentage being so high, you shouldn't go crazy if you start school undecided.  Just keep in mind that for the first year you can take those elective classes to somewhat "test the waters".  Once you find something that you like, stick to it.  Graduation will creep up on you and before you know it, you'll be in the work field.

"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life"

Season Premieres

It feels good to be off a week doesn't it? When ever it comes to my R&R, glued to a T.V is where you'll find me.  It isn't the healthiest place to be, but some shows are just too good! (you know i'm right)

The fall is known for releasing season premieres and this fall is looking great!!

If you've viewed my "Top 5 Horror Films" post you'll know that I love the whole "scary, ghoul, paranormal" genre.  I have to admit that I also love anything that can make me laugh, even if it's a poor attempt at a horror film (*cough* Drag me to hell *cough*). I am very excited to share that a couple of my favorite shows are back for a new season.

Dexter: If you love a good thriller, this series is a must watch! Dexter Morgan is the main character who lives a double life.  By day he's a blood splatter analyst and a father, and by night he's a blood thirsty serial killer.  Season 7 is teasing to be one of the most exhilarating seasons by far.

"Dexter" Season 7 premieres Sun, Sept. 30 at 9 p.m. on Showtime

The Walking Dead:  If the title doesn't give it away, this show is about ZOMBIES!  I am well aware that not everyone gets as excited as I do about a zombie show, but TRUST ME when I tell you that this show is more than rotting flesh and post apocalyptic chaos.  The drama in this show can "out-hollywood" any afternoon soap. Guaranteed!

"The Walking Dead" season premiere Sun, Oct. 14 at 9 p.m on AMC

The Office:  I LOVE THIS SHOW! If you haven't seen all of the other seasons, I advise you to go do so now! Steve Carell (40 year old virgin, Despicable Me) is hilarious in this show and despite this being the last season, it is promising to go out with a BANG!

"The Office" returns for its final season Sept 20, at 9 p.m on NBC

I hope everyone enjoys these shows, and the remainder of their break!
