Importance of a Dream

Many times in college you change your mind about what you are going to study (What to major in).  One of the most important things in life is doing something you love.  There is no better feeling than achieving bliss or fulfillment.  Many people go to college just to get a degree, or to obtain a job that delivers plump checks.  What if you got all of that but were still unhappy?  Achieving happiness isn't impossible but the journey to it can prove to be exhausting.

I like to keep a thought in mind.  When trying to reach a dream keep your eyes on the goal and forget about the obstacles.  Everyone goes through struggle and that part of life is inevitable.  The point when you  achieve a dream is what makes it all worth it.

I found an article online that got me thinking.  Here are my top three favorite questions from the article.

1. How do you really know anything for sure?

2. When you're 90 years old, what will matter to you the most?

3. When will you be good enough for you?  Is there some breaking point where you will accept everything about yourself?

These were some of my favorite questions from the site because they make you think about the important things in life.  When I'm 90 years old the thing that will matter to me the most  is if I achieved my goal of writing multiple books.  Even if only one person reads them,  I would feel accomplished.

This is the link to the website, go check out the rest of the questions.
18 thought provoking questions

I'll leave you guys with this,

How to deal with education loans after school

Well, When someone reaches graduation usually wants to get rid of student debt as fast as possible in order to move on to another stage of his financial life. However, this is not always an easy task. Student debt accumulates and prevents graduated students from repaying the whole debt in a speedy manner. Sometimes students spend years paying just the interests on their loans while the principal remains intact.

Moreover, student loans usually have a mere 6 month grace period after graduation that lenders seem to think is enough time for someone to get a permanent job and a steady income. This is not always true; in fact, it takes far more than that to find a job. And those lucky enough to get hired within this period, usually get part-time jobs or temporary jobs which do not provide a good enough income to meet the loans' installments.

#Student Consolidation Loans

This situation forces students to resort to student consolidation loans so they can reduce the amount of their monthly payments and if possible reduce the amount of money paid on interests too. Furthermore the sole reduction of the number of outstanding loans cuts hundreds of dollars on administrative fees that are usually charged separately (though sometimes included in the interest rate).

Student Consolidation loans help by reducing the monthly payments; however, they will not speed up the debt reduction process unless you undertake other measures in order to boost their effects. There are many additional actions you can take in order to start eliminating debt more quickly so you can become debt free in a few years.

#Cut On Unnecessary Expenses And Postpone Costly Actions

Till you find a permanent job, you can aid your debt reduction process by cutting on redundant expenses such as dinning out, attending to clubs every weekend, etc. Also, it will not kill you to keep sharing an apartment till you can afford rent on your own while managing to pay for your loan at the same time.

Basically, unless after paying for your loan monthly installment you have enough money to cover for any unexpected event, do not get into more unnecessary expenses and use the money to pay off the loan's principal sooner or build some savings for emergencies.

#Forbearances

Another option if you find yourself in a tight situation is to request your consolidation loan lender forbearance. Forbearance is a period of time during which the loan payments will be suspended. Make sure you use this time to solve whatever problem is preventing you from making your monthly payments and also to build some savings to cover for unexpected events in case this comes to happen again.

Most lenders offer forbearances only once a year and some of them only offer one in the whole life of the loan, so make sure you really need it before requesting this grace period. Otherwise if another unexpected event takes place you will not be able to use this tool and will have to resort to other finance sources worsening your debt problems.

Is Volunteering Important for Your Homeschoolers?

Helping your children to find appropriate volunteer opportunities is very important on several different levels. Giving back to those who are less fortunate helps all of us grow! When picking out different avenues for volunteering look at what the person wants to do with their lives. Do they want to work in social services? How about working at a homeless shelter, delivering food to seniors, or helping at a Domestic Violence center. This will help them to see what others are doing in those fields.

My daughter wanted to work with animals. She volunteered with a Wildlife Rehabilitation Non-profit and in a Veterinarians office through out her teenage years. She started college at 16 and went on for 8 years to become a Veterinarian. She now works with that same office and sets on the board of the local Wildlife Rehabilitation Non-profit. By seeing what the work was like she never hesitated in what she wanted to do for her life long career. Plus having several years of volunteering before applying for college helped her be accepted by two colleges on her first try.

Is your child interested in the environment? Check out the local Forest Service office. Quite often they have summer jobs and volunteer opportunities. Medical Field? How about the local hospital or Nursing home? Gardening? The State Extension office helps to develope Master Gardeners and many of them are growing plots to help out the food banks.

There is not a shortage of opportunities. Let your imagination and their imaginations take them places that they never envisioned and the results will be fantastic!

A lot more Math, Science and College For U.S. Students Than Ever Ahead of

Earlier this week I published a piece around the Brookings report that schools are no worse currently than previously, contrary for the hysteria whipped by Ed Deformers and pundits that schoolҀs currently are in crisis. Their evaluation of PISA test scores revealed that when U.S. math and science scores have already been enhancing slightly, they under no circumstances have been (and nevertheless are not) incredibly sturdy in comparison to other wealthy nations.

On the other hand, in quite a few strategies, K-12 education has been generating dramatic gains. Students currently are taking additional math and science courses than a generation ago, when additional are going straight to college immediately after graduation. Involving 1990 and 2009, the percentage of high school students taking chemistry jumped from 49 percent to 70 percent, plus the percentage taking physics rose from 21 percent to 36 percent, as outlined by The Situation of Education 2012, a brand new report reviewed around the Fantastic Education web page. There have been related gains in math, with 16% of students taking calculus in 2009, compared with 7 percent in 1990, and 11 percent  taking statistics, compared with 1 percent  in 1990.

The amount of students getting into college suitable immediately after high School  jumped from 49 percent  in 1979, to 70 percent  in 2009. When gains have been observed for many ethnic groups and have been biggest for African Americans (66 percent in 2010, compared with 43 percent in 1975), you will discover nevertheless important disparities in total college or university enrollment. A greater percentage of white students (70%) and also a substantially larger percentage of Asian students (88%) are going to college suitable out of high School than black students (66%), when the price for Hispanic students has stayed flat more than the previous various decades. By far the most glaring disparities, on the other hand, have been amongst unique revenue groups, with only 52% of low-income students attending college suitable out of higher college, compared to 82% of students from high-income households.

I wish I knew

We've all reached a point in our lives where we regret the mistakes we've made in the past.  No matter what you go through, lessons are learned. What I do wish is that I knew a couple of things freshmen year that I know now.  Here's my list on what I wish I knew.

5 Things I wish I knew

1.The Flash drive- Losing a flash drive can be painful.  I once lost a flash drive with resumes, essays, and account information for multiple websites. The best advice is what ever you have on your flash drive, save it to your computer another flash drive that stays at home, and send it to multiple emails.  You can never be too safe.

2.Don't drink on a weekday- I started college with the mentality that partying will be the thing to do, until I drank on a Tuesday night.  My friend's mother left on vacation for two weeks so we had an open house to ourselves.  It was my friend's bright idea to invite a couple friend's over despite us have an 8 am class the next day.  We drank, and I learned the hard way that Vodka is not my best friend.  I made it to my class, but  became best friends with the toilet where I threw up my small intestine.  I learned my lesson.

3.ASC Center-  Berkeley College has a great service where they tutor students, for free.  I needed help with my statistics class.  It wasn't until  I received my week six progress report that I knew something was wrong.  I was failing the class and I knew something needed to be done.  Thankfully I went to the Academic Support Center and they were able to help me pass my class.

4.Money for books- I remember early on in school I found out that student accounts could put money in your ID which could be used to buy books.  This money of course was determined by how you were packaged in financial aid.  I am approaching graduation and looking back I should of never asked for the maximum amount of money.

5.Communicate with Professors-  It took me a while to realize that speaking with your professor can be all the difference in your overall experience in the class.  I remember being nervous to speak to any professor now I  feel like I've made a couple friends out of them.

Take these five tips and learn from my mistakes, I sure did.

Catch you next time,

U.S. PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOLS WELCOME INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Quite a few public high schools all through the USA have good international students around the J-1 High School Exchange Program sponsored by the United State Department of State for the goal of introducing students to American culture and enabling them to reveal their culture together with the schools and host households they commit the year with.

More than the previous various years, a increasing variety of public high schools have began welcoming international students with the F-1 student visa system. You will discover some similarities involving attending a public high school around the J-1 and F-1 visas, but you will discover also quite a few variations. According to the student's goal and ambitions, one particular program may well be additional appropriate than the other.

Listed below are the principle similiarities:

  1. Students reside with close by homestay families
  2. Participation is restricted to one particular school year
  3. Students can join school clubs and sports

Listed below are the principle variations:

1. Students around the J-1 program ought to return to their household nation in the ending with the school year and are often excluded from returning for the United State of America on any form of student visa for no less than two years. Conversely, students with F-1 visas may well continue their education for more years at a private high school or commence their university education devoid of obtaining to transform their visa status or return to their nation.

2. Students around the J-1 system can only apply by way of a specially-licensed U.S. organization which will only spot a restricted variety of students annually. As a result of the restricted variety of students which will apply, finding accepted to this system is often a incredibly competitive course of action that ought to be began just about one particular year ahead of time.

3. Costs for the J-1 system are low when compared with the F-1 system. The explanation for that is that the J-1 system is sponsored by the United states government - students usually do not spend for college tuition costs and they reside with volunteer homestay households. The principle charges are airfare and placement and monitoring costs that students will spend for the J-1 placement organization. F-1 applications are certainly not sponsored by the US government so students ought to spend college tuition and area and boarding costs with their very own household funds.

4. Students around the J-1 system commonly don't have a decision on which place or college they may attend. Students around the F-1 system, on the other hand, can opt for which state, city and college they would prefer to attend according to their qualifications and space availability.

5. The J-1 system application course of action is extended and difficult plus the guidelines are extremely strict. F-1 visa applications, alternatively, call for a substantially easier application and fewer supporting documents. This makes it possible for students to start the application course of action earlier, and get accepted for the college of their decision substantially sooner.

6. Students around the F-1 visa system may well be capable of graduate and acquire a diploma in the high school they attend (if they may be accepted to Grade 12 and have adequate credits to graduate inside one particular school year). Students around the J-1 visa can not graduate or acquire a high college diploma, irrespective of the amount of credits they've earned.

7. Students with an F-1 visa may well continue their education for more years to finish their high school and university education.

The Alternative Learning Institute: New Orleans, LA

When the overall economy of New Orleans is ultimately beginning to choose up immediately after the destruction of Hurricane Katrina, quite a few communities throughout the city are nevertheless struggling to have by, facing higher crime rates, poverty, and jobless. These components all trickle down in to the nearby college technique and in 2011 a whopping 91 with the 103 public schools inside the city have been inside the failing category as outlined by No Kid That is left behind requirements, generating it the lowest performing college district inside the state. These inadequate scores are certainly connected for the financial despair with the neighborhood at massive, with greater than 40 percent of children in New Orleans living beneath the poverty line, lacking standard college supplies, academic sources, and in some cases meals at household. The Alternative Learning Institute provides a number of the poorest communities in New Orleans, with 95.7 percent of its students living close to or under the poverty line. With handful of sources and beleaguered by bigger neighborhood difficulties, test scores inside the school are about as low as they may very well be, with only 4 percent of students getting proficient in math and reading.

Frederick Douglass High, Baltimore, MD

Quite a few schools in Baltimore, specifically these inside the most poverty-stricken regions, are feeling the discomfort of statewide price range difficulties. Current alterations within a school-improvement grants system that makes it possible for funds to visit any college inside the state in lieu of straight to these that happen to be neediest have created points even worse. At Frederick Douglass High, 80.7 percent of students acquire absolutely free or reduced-cost lunches and citywide greater than 83 percent of schools have half their students or additional qualifying for these added benefits. That is a quite higher price of poverty, and as you could consider it includes a direct effect around the excellent and functionality of schools inside the city, like Frederick Douglass, one particular with the lowest performing schools inside the state. The college was the topic of a current documentary called Really hard Instances at Douglass High A No Youngster Left Behind Report Card, which documented the academic and financial challenges with the college.

Only the efforts of outstanding teachers and administrators are in a position to retain these schools functioning at all. Legislation for instance No Youngster Left Behind, the educational reforms proposed by a current Council on Foreign Relations task force headed by Joel Klein and Condoleezza Rice, and in some cases President ObamaҀs threat to penalize schools with higher drop-out prices in his 2012 State with the Union Address, only serve to additional weaken these schools by punishing them for "failing" to teach their students. How can even the ideal teachers attain all the students who reside beneath the situations described right here?

In regions exactly where the tax income funding technique has failed as a result of urban flight and de-industrialization, or exorbitant tax breaks provided to corporations in these impoverished regions, societal and governmental duty for giving the help and funding for these schools is necessary to assist the schools and their neighborhoods crawl out of poverty. The argument that really hard operate will let any person to get away the situations of their birth is often a myth; you may only pull oneself up by your bootstraps should you have boots to start with.

Homeschooling on Those Hard Days

We all have had days when home schooling is really hard! The children are disconnected and just a little unruly. So change things up and make it a fun day that is still constructive.

Are they being wiggly? Set up hopscotch on the kitchen floor if it is yucky outside. Use a wadded up paper towel for the tosser. This will help them burn up some energy and laugh! While doing this pop some popcorn and get ready for the next step in an unusual day.

Once they are worn out a little put the popcorn in a large unbreakable bowl and head for the frontroom. Sit down leaning up against the furniture in a big circle. You get to start this. Holding the bowl in your hands start telling a story. Make it simple. After a few sentences take some popcorn and pass the bowl to whoever is next to you. They do not get any popcorn until they have added to the story. This works really well with younger children.
