Spain: The Kiss

The gesture of a kiss from cheek to cheek
Where did such a tradition begin?
Redundant but sweet, Spaniards always kiss
From Hello to Goodbye and every time they meet
Gentle lips gracing skin
Childlike, pecking face cushions with reluctant effervescence
An unprejudiced tradition that is sure to endure.

Body leans forward, embracing in the arms of a hug
A swift dance from side to side
The brim of the primrose closes
Narrow faced, lips fishy, flesh adjoined
And for a pucker of a second,
A primal connection is formed.

A simple affection.
Consoling the rhythm
That keeps us alive.
