Home School Progress Checks

3 Easy Ways to Report Your Child's Progress

How to determine your homeschooler's progress is a question that many parents have. It is important to make sure you are accurately monitoring your child's progress to ensure they are getting the best home school experience possible. Listed below are three easy ways to report your child's progress.

The traditional way to monitor your student is by a grading scale. The point of schooling is to ensure your child has learned what was taught to them. Getting the proper answer on a test can help you determine what was not understood and where to continue to provide lessons. Using the grading scale will give you a concrete measure of how your student is progressing.

Many states will also allow you to write a final assessment for a particular subject. This is a detailed description from you on your child's progress on a topic. This unfortunately, does not give your student a gauge on how they are doing in a particular subject. Therefore, you will likely need to sit down and discuss your child's progress on a regular basis.

You can also keep a portfolio of your child's work. This portfolio should show progress in each of the subjects being taught. For example, it can include numerous essays for the English requirement or a book report on a literary classic.

Be sure to check with your state's education board to make sure you are following their mandated or prescribed way of tracking your child's progress. This will ensure you are compliant with your monitoring and tracking standards.
