Creating Home School Lesson Plans

3 Steps to Create Solid Lesson Plan

For parents who wish to teach their children in a home schooled environment, there needs to be a great deal of dedication from the parents, combined with discipline and patience, not to mention enthusiasm. Not every subject matter is going to be exciting or interesting to the student, so having a concise and thorough lesson plan can make or break your child's education. Here are some tips to consider when creating your lesson plan:

a. Determine the subjects that you'll be teaching. Part of this can actually be done for you, depending on your state's educational requirements. In most cases math & reading are required. From there, you can include science, social studies, even a foreign language.

b. Have the right materials - There are a variety of student and teacher textbooks that can be used for every age and educational level. Employ engaging activities for your students to grasp the concepts you're trying to convey. You may also want to make sure this course material is divided up into manageable sections throughout the school year so that you're not overwhelming or underwhelming your child.

c. Study while you teach - After a period of time, you'll understand the learning methods that work best with your child. Because you are schooling in a private capacity, your one-on-one interaction time is constant, and you'll know if worksheets or pop-quizzes help your child understand the course materials best.

Home Schooling your child can be an exciting task to undertake, and with the right materials, a successful lesson plan can be devised that will make your child's education fun, entertaining, and worthwhile.
