Master Degree: Art and Design Degree and Programs

Online education art and design programs are founded on the belief that artists shouldn't automatically feel like outsiders, but can play an integral role in our society and economy. The advertising industry, for instance, is always looking for talented artists. A master's degree in art and design is perfect for someone who loves being creative, but also wants to make a living. This degree may be fun, but it's career training, too. Usually, because this is an advanced degree, students will specialize in a certain area of art and design, such as media, fashion, or illustration. Typical coursework will vary, then, depending on the area of specialization. Courses in animation, textile design, and drawing are common. People like this type of work, so competition is keen. A master's degree indicates superior knowledge and career training, putting you in an elite group. A 2008 salary survey by AIGA showed that designers earn anywhere from $35,000 to $105,000, depending on experience, geography, and the field chosen. Many designers eventually choose to become independent contractors or start their own firm. About 25 percent of graphic designers, for example, are self-employed.
