Study Abroad in Phuket Thailand

Ever thought of studying abroad in Thailand?

I am a student who recently studied abroad in Phuket--and all I have to say is don't put it on hold--Pack your bags you won't regret it.

I was actually a film student and changed my major after studying abroad and taking courses in hospitality and tourism. So it was a huge transformation in that respect, but my life has changed so much since then.

If you haven't heard much about the Thai culture, the Thai people have hearts of gold. I actually made friends in Thailand that treated me better than the friends I had back home. I keep in touch with them as often as I can and they are constantly asking me when I will be back. How amazing is that?

One of the most memorable moments with my friends in Thailand was when they gave me my Thai name. They called me Chaba-which means flower. I felt so beautiful, honored, but most of all I felt like one of them--part of their family. When you are in Thailand you will see how important relationships are to the people and how soon they will make you feel at home. Their kindness definitely relieved any type of culture shock or homesickness.

I know a big worry could be that the language and culture is so diverse, but honestly it wasn't a bad thing. I am now a better woman for it. I took a Thai language course and now I speak at least the basics, and my friends were constantly making sure I was using my Thai and let's just say I was one of the best in my class. However, many of the Thai people know the English basics and are always willing to help. You won't have to worry about getting around.

Enough talking let me show you

Another day that I will never forget was the day I stayed with a Thai family. I didn't know what to expect, but it was a very humbling experience. I was so excited to learn from them, but much to my surprise, they had so many questions for me as well.

They even surprised me with a very special gift. I had tried to use my Thai language as much as I could while I was with them, and because of that I was able to share with them what my favorite Thai dish was. The next day I was told to come to the kitchen for lunch before it was time to leave to go back to the university. I walked in and what did I see...they had made me my favorite Thai dish or Geng Kiaaw Wan Gai...which means Green Curry with Chicken. That was such a good feeling. I will never forget their kindness and hey, they still say I am welcome their any time I wish.
