NDA I 2013 - National Defence Academy

About NDA
The National Defence Academy is a Joint Services academy of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets of the three services, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force are trained together before they go on to pre-commissioning training to their respective service academies. It is located in Khadakwasla near Pune, Maharashtra.It was the 1st tri-service academy in the world and is rated amongst the best in the world..

Applicants to the NDA are selected via a written exam conducted by the UPSC, followed by extensive interviews covering general aptitude, psychological testing, team skills as well as physical and social skills, along with medical tests. Incoming classes are accepted twice a year for semesters starting in July and January. 
Cadets who are accepted and successfully complete the program, are sent to their respective training academies for receiving 1 year training before granting of commission, army cadets go to IMA at Dehradun while airforce cadets to AFA at Dundigal, Hyderabad and naval cadets to INA, Ezhimala,Kerala. 

National Defence Academy Examination (I) ր NDA 2013 Exam Date : 7th April, 2013

NDA Exam Eligibility 2013
I. Nationality : A candidate must either be :
A citizen of India, or
A subject of Bhutan, or
A subject of Nepal, or
A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. Certificate of eligibility will not, however, be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.

2. Age Limits, Sex and Marital Status : Only unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1994 and not later than 1st July, 1996 are eligible. The date of birth accepted by the Union Public Service Commission is that entered in the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate or in a certificate recognised by an Indian University as equivalent to Matriculation or in an extract from a Register of Matriculates maintained by a University which must be certified by the proper authority of the University or in the Higher Secondary or an equivalent examination certificates. These certificates are required to be submitted only after the declaration of the result of the written part of the NDA Entrance examination. No other document relating to age like horoscopes, affidavits, birth extracts from Municipal Corporation, service records and the like will be accepted. The expression Matriculation / Higher Secondary Examination Certificate in this part of the instruction includes the alternative certificates mentioned above.

3. Educational Qualifications :
For Army wing of National Defence Academy : 12th class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy : 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University. Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for National Defence Academy examination.

4. Physical Standards : Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I), 2013 as per guidelines given in Appendix-IV.

A candidate who has resigned or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any of the NDA training academies of Armed forces is not eligible to apply.

How to Apply
Candidates are required to apply NDA Entrance Exam Online 2013 using the website http://www.upsconline.nic.in/. Detailed instructions for filling up online applications 2013 for NDA Exam are available on the above mentioned website.

Fee: Candidates (excepting SC/ST candidates/sons of JCOs/NCOs/ORs who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a fee of Rs 50/- (Rs Fifty only) either by remitting the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of State Bank of India/State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur/Sate Bank of Hyderabad/State Bank of Mysore/State Bank of Patiala /State Bank of Travancore or by using Visa/Master Credit/Debit Card.

The Online application for NDA Entrance Exam 2013 can be filled upto 21st January, 2013 till 11.59 PM after which the link will be disabled.

UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) will conduct a Combined Defence Services Examination I on 17.02.2013.

CDS I examination will be conducted by UPSC for the admission to following mentioned courses


(1) Course Name : Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun 136th Course commencing in January, 2014 [including 32 vacancies reserved for NCC рCҀ Certificate (Army Wing) holders].
Number of vacancies: 250

(2) Course Name :Indian Naval Academy(INA), Ezhimala-Course Commencing in January, 2014 Executive (Hydro/ General Service) (including 06 vacancies reserved for NCC 'C' Certificate holders (Naval Wing). 
Number of vacancies: 40

(3)Course Name : Air Force Academy(AFA), Hyderabad (Pre-Flying) Training Course commencing in January, 2014 i.e. No.195th F(P) Course. 
Number of vacancies: 32

(4)Course Name :Officers Training Academy(OTA), Chennai, 99th SSC Course (for Men) commencing in April, 2014. 
Number of vacancies: 175

(5)Course Name :Officers Training Academy(OTA), Chennai 13th SSC Women (Non- Technical) Course commencing in April, 2014. 
Number of vacancies: 12

Women candidates are eligible only for OTA so their first and only preference should be OTA.

Sex and Marital Status
(1) IMA : Unmarried male candidates.
(2) INA : Unmarried male candiadates.
(3) AFA : Unmarried male candidates.
(4)  OTA : Married / Unmarried male candidates, unmarried women,issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless divorcees (in possession of divorce documents) who have not remarried are eligible.

Age Limit:
(1) IMA : Candidate born between 2.01.1990 and 1.01.1995.
(2) INA :Candidates born between 2.01.1992(2.01.1990 for NCC Naval Wing C certificate Holders) and 1.01.1995.
(3) AFA : Candidates born between 2.01.1991 and 1.01.1995.
(4) OTA :  Candidates born between 2.01.1989 and 1.01.1995.

Educational Qualification:
(1) IMA and OTA : Degree.
(2) INA: Degree in Engineering.
(3) AFA: Degree of a recognised University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering.

Examination Fee :
(1) Female candidates / SC / ST : No Fee.
(2) All other Candidates : 200/-

CENTRAL ARMED POLICE FORCES (ASSISTANT COMMANDANTS) EXAMINATION, 2012 

The Union Public Service Commission will hold a Written Examination on 11th November, 2012 for recruitment of Assistant Commandants (Group A) in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) viz. Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

Educational Qualification:

Bachelor's degree of any recognised university or any equivalent qualification.

A candidate must have attained the age of 20 years and must not have attained the age of 25 years on 1st August, 2012

Selection Procedure/Scheme:
he Selection Procedure/Scheme of the Exam. will be as follows:

(i) Written Examination:
The written examination to be conducted by Union Public Service Commission will be held on 11th November, 2012 and will comprise two papers.

Paper I will be held from 10 a.m. to 12.00 Noon and
Paper II will be held from 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Paper I :
General Ability and Intelligence - 250 Marks
The questions in this paper will be of Objective (Multiple Answers) Type in which the questions will be set in English as well as Hindi.

Paper II :
General Studies, Essay and Comprehension - 200 Marks
In this paper candidates will be allowed the option of writing the Essay Component in English or Hindi, but the medium of Precis Writing, Comprehension Components and other communications/language skills will be English only.

(ii) Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency Tests and Medical Standards Tests : Candidates who are declared qualified in the written examination will be summoned for Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency Tests and Medical Standards Tests. Those candidates who meet the prescribed Physical Standards, will be put through the

Physical Efficiency Tests as indicated below :

a) 100 Meters race In 16 seconds
b) 800 Meters race In 3 minutes 45 seconds 
c) Long Jump 3.5 Meters (3 chances) 
d) Shot Put (7.26 Kgs.) 4.5 Meters 

females
a) 100 Meters race In 18 seconds
b) 800 Meters race In 4 minutes 45 seconds
c) Long Jump 3.0 meters (3 chances) 

 iii) Interview/Personality Test :
 Candidates who are declared qualified in the Medical Standards Tests, will be called for Interview/Personality Test to be conducted by Union Public Service Commission. Candidates who are declared medically unfit but allowed to appear before the ӀReview Medical BoardԀ on their appeal by the Appellate Authority will be called for Interview/Personality Tests provisionally.
The Interview/Personality Test will carry 150 Marks.
Candidates who are short-listed for Interview/Personality Test, including those shortlisted for Interview/Personality Test provisionally will be issued a Detailed Application Form (DAF) in which among other things, they will be required to indicate their preference of Forces. As female candidates are eligible for appointment to CRPF, CISF and SSB only, they will be required to indicate their preference for CRPF, CISF and SSB only.

(iv) Final Selection / Merit : The merit list will be drawn on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in the Written Examination and Interview/Personality Test.

(a) Candidates are required to apply Online using the link www.upsconline. nic.in 
Detailed instructions for filling up Online Applications are available on the above mentioned website. 

(b) The applicants are advised to submit only single application. 
However, if due to any unavoidable situation, he/she submits another/multiple applications, then he/she must ensure that application with the higher RID is complete in all respects like applicants details, examination centre, photograph, signature, fee etc. 
The applicants who are submitting multiple applications should note that only the application with higher RID (Registration ID) shall be entertained by the Commission and fee paid against one RID shall not be adjusted against any other RID. 

(c) All candidates, whether already in Government Service, Government owned industrial undertakings or other similar organisations or in private employment should submit their applications direct to the Commission.

 Persons already in Government service, whether in permanent or temporary capacity or as work-charged employees other than casual or daily rated employees or those serving under the Public Enterprises are however, required to inform in writing their Head of Office/ Department that they have applied for the Examination.

Candidates should note that in case a communication is received from their employer by the Commission withholding permission to the candidates applying for/ appearing at the examination, their application will be liable to be rejected/ candidature will be liable to be cancelled.
