The 2012 Learning 2.0 conference ended today and although I didn't get to attend as often as I would have liked, everything has been recorded here and here, so I can still see some of the things I missed. This was the first time I had attended a virtual conference like this and I was impressed by how intimate it seemed. I absolutely loved having a chat as part of every session. That backchannel was often filled with some truly rich resources. I felt a lot more comfortable composing and asking questions to the speaker (or my fellow listeners) through the chat box. I participated in the chat in most of the sessions I attended and I think that also contributed to my feeling of close involvement.
I was surprised at how few people were in each session during a free, international event with so many great speakers. Next year I will work even harder to spread the word.

Time Management
TodayҀs post is about a simple idea to focus on when studying: Time Management.
I know that my attention span is probably similar to a goldfish's (3 seconds people!) but there are ways to focus.
- Instead of reaching a prestige in Call of Duty, reach for your mouse and sign into blackboard.
- Realize that it is highly unlikely that you are doing research on Facebook, SIGN OUT.
- Make a "To-Do" list, it really does help
- Always keep due dates in mind. If you wait for last minute, you'll raise your stress level.
I have definitely been caught in a situation where papers were due, and unfortunately I waited for the last minute to do them. Surviving College isn't an impossible task. If you prioritize, everything can be done. Learn from my mistakes!!

Which Home Schooling Curriculum Is Right For Me?
When choosing a home schooling curriculum you can be met with so many options that it can leave you feeling seriously confused. There are many different home schooling programs that all promise you and your child the best home schooling curriculum available.
Which home schooling curriculum is right for you and your family? Is one home schooling curriculum the right one for all your children? Or does each child need a different approach from their home schooling education?
It's been my experience that before you go "shopping" for your home schooling curriculum online you need to sit down, find a quite time and consider both your needs and the needs of your child. This is a very important consideration when choosing your best home schooling resource. Your needs are as important as you child's needs. You'll be the one teaching the home schooling curriculum. You have to feel comfortable with your choice. Don't make the mistake of choosing a home schooling online curriculum that appears ideal for your child, if you cannot cope with the time and personal resources needed to achieve the ideal. You and your child will suffer in the long run.
Rather choose a home schooling program that you feel comfortable with and can manage. Once you get into the routine of home schooling, you'll soon find your feet. Your confidence in your ability to teach will grow. I always say, "Who better to teach your children than their own Mother?" It won't be long before you're able to prove to yourself, that you are the best home school teacher for your child.
When it comes time to choose your homeschool curriculum online, I've found the following questions to be helpful, in making that final purchasing decision:
What is the end goal for my child?
Do I want to concentrate on an academic home schooling curriculum, a creative home schooling curriculum or a combination of the two?
What is my belief system
What are my Religious beliefs, if any?
Do I want to teach my children my belief system as part of their home schooling program?
Do a want a home schooling curriculum that demands a strict schedule or a more flexible schedule?
What is my budget? Remember you'll not only be buying the home schooling program. You'll be buying everything from crayons to science experiment kits!
Once you've answered these questions you'll find you have a better understanding of which home schooling curriculum would best suit both you and your children. Now you can shop for your home schooling online curriculum with a positive attitude knowing which home schooling program would be best for your family.
Always bear in mind that every Homeschool family is different. Your neighbour's choice of home schooling curriculum may work brilliantly for her, but not suit you at all. There is a home schooling program out there to suit everyone, it's just a matter of knowing what you want from you home schooling curriculum.

Why More Expensive Distance Education is Well Worth the Cost
Have you ever heard the term Ӏyou get what you pay for?Ԁ When it comes to distance education programs and courses, this theory certainly applies.
ThereҀs a plethora of courses and programs available online through distance education from various educational institutions and some are better than others. Although it may be tempting to shop solely by price, but itҀs important to remember that shopping for your education is not like shopping for the best deals on groceries!
Distance education courses and programs can vary in cost from just a few hundred dollars for courses to nearly $100,000 for premium graduate level courses at top universities throughout the world. One thing is certain though; What you spend on your education does matter as itҀs unlikely the that the lowest cost courses and programs wonҀt offer the career growth options that more expensive courses will.
Accredited
The reason that there are literally hundreds or thousands of courses available online through distance education is because not every course offered through every course provider or school is accredited.
This means that although the course may have some merit and you may learn something, it may not be recognized by a body that verifies that a course or program meets certain criteria. In Canada one of these organizations is called the Association of Community Colleges of Canada. Look for a course provider that is accredited and expect to pay more for it.
Technology
A good quality online course will have invested money into their platform to make it easy for you to study online through distance education. A sure sign of a poor quality course is an amateur-looking website and online learning platform. A good course provider will also offer technical support to make sure you can get connected and use the technology that the school is offering.
Instructor Access
Good quality distance education courses will allow you to have access to an instructor or professor that will help you answer any questions.
While the courses may be offered solely through video and online learning platforms, a good course will give you access to instructors to answer your questions. This will usually happen through Skype, email, chat or even telephone in some cases. However itҀs done; make sure you have access to an instructor so that you are able to ask questions.
One good example of a course that offers all of these elements is the Electromechanical Course available at www.emcourse.com. Offered through George Brown College, which is an established and reputable community college, this course can be completed in approximately 34 weeks. Although the cost for this program is over $1700, there are payment options that allow you to put down just $345 and then pay $60 for each module.
The Electromechanical Technician Certificate program offered through George Brown College is used by a number of large multi-national companies like General Motors and Boeing as a means of training their staff. While the course isnҀt the least expensive around, it certainly has a reputation that makes the extra cost well worth it.
